The San Francisco 49ers have been very aggressive so far in the off-season. They have re-signed nine of their own guys so far this off-season and they have also signed seven free agents. Here’s a look at what they have done so far this off-season:
Offensively: The 49ers flirted with signing Peyton Manning before he went to the Broncos. After they lost out on him, they quickly re-signed Alex Smith. The 49ers have added Mario Manningham and Randy Moss to the WRing corps and that should make Alex Smith happy. The Niners also have signed RB Brandon Jacobs, who will team with Frank Gore to give them an outstanding RB tandem for 2012. The Niners have also brought back WRs Ted Ginn and Brett Swain to help out on offense and special teams in 2012. RB Rock Cartwright was brought in to help the Niners with depth at RB and on special teams where he excels. QB Josh Johnson was brought in to compete for the #2 job behind Alex Smith in 2012.
Defensively: The two big moves the Niners made were in bringing back safety Dashon Goldson (with the franchise tag) and LB Ahmad Brooks. The 49ers have also brought back LB Tavares Gooden, CB Tramaine Brock, DE/DT Will Tukuafu and safety C.J. Spillman. The Niners also bought low on CB Perrish Cox and he has a big upside if he can keep out of trouble.
Special Teams: The Niners have signed long snapper Ryan Pontibrand. They also brought back all-world return man Ted Ginn.
