The San Francisco 49ers are sending 8 players to the Pro Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers are sending 8 players to the Pro Bowl.  The Niners are sending four defensive players, 2 offensive players and 2 special teams players to Hawaii.  26-year old LB Patrick Willis is a beast in the middle of the Niners’ D.  He has played in 12 games so far this year for the 49ers and he has 93 tackles, 2 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 12 passes defensed and 1 interception.  32-year old DE Justin Smith has played in 15 games for the Niners so far this year and he has 55 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 passes defensed.  30-year old CB Carlos Rogers definitely deserves this honor as he has played out of his mind so far this year.  Rogers has played in 15 games for the Niners so far this year and he has 39 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 18 passes defensed and 6 interceptions (one returned for a TD).  27-year old safety Dashon Goldson will be the only reserve out of the Niners’ four defensive players going to the Pro Bowl.  He has played in 13 games for the 49ers so far this year and he has 64 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 6 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 1 tackle for a loss.

28-year old RB Frank Gore and 27-year old OT Joe Staley will be the offensive players making a trip to Hawaii.  Gore has played in 15 games for the 49ers so far this year and he has carried the ball 275 times for 1,202 yards (4.4 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He has also caught 17 passes for 114 yards (6.7 avg) in this game.  Staley has played in 15 games (all starts) for the Niners this year.

37-year old kicker David Akers has played in 15 games for the Niners this year and he has connected on 42 of 49 field goals (85.7%), including 9 made kicks of 50 yards or more.  He also has connected on all 30 of his extra points as he has scored 156 points so far this year.  29-year old punter Andy Lee has played in all 15 games for the 49ers so far this year and he has punted the ball 73 times for 3,686 yards (50.5 avg).  He only has 8 touchbacks (11%) and he has played the ball inside the opposing 20-yard line 26 times (35.6%).

The 49ers are sending one player from each phase of the game to the Pro Bowl.  25-year old TE Vernon Davis has really exploded this season earning this honor.  Davis has played in 15 games for the Niners this season and he has caught 72 passes for 876 yards (12.2 avg) with 12 TD grabs.  24-year old linebacker Patrick Willis is flat out awesome.  He has played in 15 games for the Niners this season and he has made 147 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, defensed 7 passes and he has 3 interceptions (one returned for a TD).  27-year old punter Andy Lee will also be making the trip to Miami.  He has played in 15 games for the Niners this season and he has punted the ball 90 times for 4,291 yards (47.7 avg).  He has 7 touchbacks (7.8%) and 28 punts downed inside the opposing 20-yard line (31.1%).
