The 49ers played conservative football offensively last night and it protected the defense just enough to get them a win.  Alex Smith started at QB last night and he completed 8 of 10 passes for 45 yards without a TD pass or interception.  Colin Kaepernick had another really rough night as he completed 3 of 7 passes for 36 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 20 yards (6.7 ypc) in this game.  Josh McCown completed all four of his pass attempts yesterday, good for 51 yards.  McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw one incomplete pass in this game.  Kendall Hunter led the way on the ground for the Niners in this game with 11 carries for 57 yards (5.2 ypc).  Anthony Dixon was also impressive with 45 yards rushing on 13 carries (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Xavier Omon pitched in with 35 yards rushing on 11 carries (3.2 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 33 yards last night.  WR Kyle Williams led the way in the passing game for the Niners last night with 2 grabs for 31 yards (15.5 avg).  The 49ers rushed for 160 yards on 42 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 22 passes (68.2%) for 124 yards as they had possession of the ball for 35:22.

The defense was just good enough to help the Niners win last night.  Rookie OLB Aldon Smith was playing like a possessed man last night with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 4 QB hits!  LB Antwan Applewhite (7 tackles, 1/2 sack and 1 QB hit), LB Larry Grant (7 tackles) and safety C.J. Spillman (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed) were also very active in this game for the Niners.  LB NaVorro Bowman (fumble recovery), LB Alex Joseph (fumble recovery) and CB Chris Culliver (interception) also made big plays for the Niners.  The Chargers finished up with 154 yards rushing on 23 carries (6.7 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 26 passes (65.4%) for 185 yards.  The 49ers have finished the preseason with a 2-2 record.

The 49ers flat out sucked last night on both sides of the football, period!  Alex Smith looked pathetic last night as he completed 2 of 6 passes for 17 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Colin Kaepernick didn’t look good either as he completed 6 of 16 passes for 52 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  His interception was returned 73 yards for a TD by Texans’ safety Troy Nolan.  Rookie RB Kendall Hunter led the way on the ground for the Niners last night with 40 yards rushing on 8 carries (5.0 ypc).  Anthony Dixon pitched in with 15 yards rushing on 8 carries (1.9 ypc) last night.  No receiver caught more than 1 pass for the Niners last night!  The 49ers finished up with 55 yards on 16 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 8 of 22 passes (36.4%) for 50 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 19:24 last night!

CB Chris Culliver (8 tackles, 2 passes defensed), LB Scott McKillop (8 tackles) and safety C.J. Spillman (5 tackles and 1 fumble recovery) led the way for the Niners’ D last night.  DT Ricky Jean-Francois (fumble recovery) and LB Ahmad Brooks (interception that he returned for 13-yard TD) also had big plays on D for the Niners last night.  The Texans rushed for 172 yards on 42 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 35 passes (68.6%) for 245 yards last night.  The 49ers are now 1-2 on the preseason.

The 49ers went with a conservative approach on offense last Saturday night in an effort to control the ball and the pace of the game and it worked.  Alex Smith looked a lot better than last week as he completed 8 of 13 passes for 126 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Rookie Colin Kaepernick was also a lot better as he completed 6 of 8 passes for 52 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Punter Andy Lee attempted 1 pass and it was picked off by the Raiders.  Rookie Kendall Hunter was outstanding in this game as he rushed for 105 yards on 9 carries (11.7 avg) with 1 TD run.  Xavier Omon also looked sharp as he rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries (4.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Anthony Dixon pitched in with 53 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.4 ypc) in this game.  WRs Braylon Edwards (2 rec, 46 yards) and Josh Morgan (2 rec, 40 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Niners in this game.  The 49ers rushed for 239 yards on 41 carries (5.8 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 22 passes (63.6%) for 163 yards as they had possession of the ball for 36:44 last night.

The defense was outstanding for the 49ers last Saturday night.  Safety Madieu Williams (4 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and CB Chris Culliver (4 tackles) led the way for the D in this game.  CB Tarrell Brown pitched in with an interception in this game for the Niners.  The Raiders finished up with 63 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 24 passes (58.3%) for 151 yards in this game.  The 49ers are now 1-1 on the pre-season.

The 49ers were pitiful offensively last night and the scoreboard reflects how really poor they played.  Alex Smith started at QB last night and he was pathetic.  Smith completed 2 of 7 passes for only 10 yards last night.  Rookie QB Colin Kaepernick finished up the game and he didn’t look too good either.  Kaepernick completed 9 of 19 passes for 117 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 interceptions.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 47 yards (7.8 ypc) last night.  Rookie RB Kendall Hunter led the backs in rushing last night with 29 yards on 7 carries (4.1 ypc).  WRs Kyle Williams (2 rec, 34 yards) and Lance Long (2 rec, 26 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Niners last night.  The 49ers ran the ball well as they rushed for 136 yards on 29 carries (4.7 ypc) but they only completed 11 of 26 passes (42.3%) for 98 yards. 

The defense played well against the pass but not so good against the run last night.  Rookie DE/OLB Aldon Smith led the way for the D last night with 5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 sack.  LB Larry Grant and safety C.J. Spillman also pitched in with 5 tackles apiece last night.  The Saints rushed for 138 yards on 34 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 27 passes (55.6%) for 150 yards last night.  The Niners definately have a lot of work to do.

The 49ers ran a very balanced offense last night as the ran the ball 28 times and passed the ball 28 times.  David Carr started at QB for the Niners last night and he completed 5 of 6 passes for 88 yards.  Nate Davis finished up this game at QB by completing 11 of 22 passes for 103 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Rookie RB Anthony Dixon led the way on the ground for the Niners once again with 80 yards rushing on 12 carries (6.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Michael Robinson was also busy with 10 carries for 33 yards (3.3 ypc).  Fullback Jehuu Caulcrick pitched in with 5 carries for 27 yards (5.4 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 26 yards (6.5 avg) with a TD.  Rookie TE Nate Byham led the way in the passing game for the Niners last night with 3 receptions for 30 yards.  The Niners finished up with 139 yards rushing (5.0 ypc) and 148 yards passing in this game.

Rookie LB NaVorro Bowman led the way for the Niners last night with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit.  DT Derek Walker pitched in with 7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 QB hit and a fumble recovery.  OLB Bruce Davis pitched in with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 1 pass defensed and 2 QB hits.  OLB Manny Lawson and rookie safety Taylor Mays pitched in with 1 interception apiece.  The Chargers finished up with 116 yards rushing (4.5 ypc) and 235 yards passing in this game.  The Niners finished the pre-season with a 4-0 record.

The 49ers won a hard fought game last night against the Raiders in Oakland.  Alex Smith led a conservative attack by completing 9 of 15 passes for 113 yards with 1 TD pass.  David Carr didn’t look too good when he followed Smith in the game as he completed 7 of 17 passes for 54 yards.  Rookie RB Anthony Dixon had a big workload once again last night with 21 carries for 69 yards (3.3 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 15 yards.  Frank Gore made a brief appearance and he was outstanding as he carried the ball 2 times for 58 yards (29.0 ypc) with a TD run.  Brian Westbrook pitched in with 17 yards rushing on 2 carries (8.5 ypc) last night.  WRs Dominique Zeigler (5 rec, 47 yards) and Josh Morgan (3 rec, 31 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Niners last night.  The 49ers finished up with 165 yards rushing (5.0 ypc) and 167 yards passing last night.

LB Patrick Willis led the way as usual for the 49ers on D in this game with 8 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit.  CB Karl Paymah pitched in with 7 tackles in this game.  Rookie 7th round pick (CB) Phillip Adams had a night to remember.  He only had two tackles last night but he also returned 3 punts for 116 yards (38.7 avg) with a 83-yard TD return.  The Raiders finished up with 55 yards rushing (2.9 ypc) and 276 yards passing in this game.  The 49ers are now 3-0 on the pre-season.

The 49ers didn’t look too sharp on offense but they didn’t have to because of the D.  Alex Smith was solid in completing 9 of 13 passes for 88 yards on Sunday Night.  Nate Davis didn’t look so good though as he completed only 7 of 16 passes for 114 yards.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 16 yards (8.0 ypc) in this game.  Rookie RB led the way on the ground once again for the Niners with 20 carries for 51 yards (2.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Ted Ginn led the way in the air for the Niners with 65 yards rushing on 2 grabs (32.5 avg).  The 49ers finished up with 80 yards rushing (2.6 ypc) and 191 yards passing in this game.

The defense was outstanding for the Niners in this contest.  ILB Patrick Willis (4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit) and OLB Manny Lawson (4 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss) both played well in this game.  Rookie 7th round pick (CB) Phillip Adams also had a solid game with 4 tackles and 3 passes defensed.  The Vikings finished up with 114 yards rushing (5.7 ypc) and 79 yards passing in this game.

San Francisco 49ers 37, Indianapolis Colts 17

The 49ers dominated this game after Peyton Manning left the contest.  Alex Smith didn’t look too good at all yesterdy as he completed 3 of 9 passes for 37 yards with 1 pickoff.  David Carr followed Smith in the game and he was outstanding completing 9 of 11 passes for 98 yards with 1 TD pass.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 16 yards yesterday.  Nate Davis finished up the game at QB for the Niners and he looked good completing 5 of 6 passes for 84 yards.  Rookie sixth round pick Anthony Dixon really excelled in his first taste of the NFL with 21 carries for 100 yards (4.8 ypc) with a TD run.  He also caught 3 passes for 22 yards (7.3 avg) yesterday.  Michael Robinson didn’t look too good in this game with 5 carries for 13 yards (2.6 ypc) with a TD run but he also lost a fumble.  Rookie TE (6th rounder) Nate Byham also made a good first impression for the Niners with 3 grabs for 52 yards (17.3 avg).  TE Tony Curtis pitched in with 2 receptions for 14 yards (7.0 avg) with a TD.  The 49ers finished up with 132 yards rushing (4.6 ypc) and 203 yards passing in this game.

The defense was outstanding in this game for the Niners.  Linebackers Mike Balogun (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and Bruce Davis (6 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Niners defensively.  Safety Reggie Smith also made a huge impact in this game with 2 tackles, 2 passed defensed and a interception that he returned 91 yards for a TD.  The Colts finished up with 58 yards rushing (2.4 ypc) and 177 yards passing yesterday.

San Diego Chargers 26, San Francisco 49ers 7

The 49ers looked like they forgot they had a game last Friday Night.  Shaun Hill made a quick appearance after completing 3 of 4 passes for 20 yards.  Rookie Nate Davis finished up the game by completing 13 of 23 passes for 115 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Kory Sheets led the Niners in rushing in this game with 33 yards on six carries (5.5 ypc).  The 49ers completed passes to 12 different players in this game but no one caught more than 3 passes or had over 33 yards receiving.   The 49ers finished up with only 188 total yards on offense (60 rushing, 128 passing) as they only had possession of the football for a putrid 19:46 of this game.

Linebacker Scott McLillop led the way for the Niners on defense in this game with 13 tackles.  The Chargers finished up with 346 total yards in this game (161 rushing, 185 passing).  The 49ers finish the pre-season with a 3-1 record.

San Francisco 49ers 20, Dallas Cowboys 13

The 49ers played a solid all around game in Dallas Saturday Night.  Shaun Hill started this game at QB and he completed 9 of 17 passes for 79 yards.  Damon Huard made a brief appearance in this game completing 2 of 4 passes for 25 yards.  Rookie Nate Davis finished up this game and he played well again completing 10 of 15 passes for 132 yards.  Kory Sheets led the Niners in rushing in this game with 42 yards on 11 carries (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 3 passes for 18 yards (6.0 avg) in this game.  Glen Coffee was also a busy body in this game with 34 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.3 ypc) and he also added 3 catches for 27 yards (9.0 avg).  Arnaz Battle led the way in the passing game for the Niners with 54 yards on 4 catches (13.5 avg).  The 49ers finished with 319 yards of total offense in this game (101 rushing, 218 passing). 

Safety Mark Roman led a bend but don’t break defense in this game as he had 5 tackles and a interception that he returned 57 yards off Tony Romo.  The Cowboys finished up with 377 total yards on offense (125 rushing, 252 passing) but they could only muster 13 points.
