San Francisco 49ers vs. St. Louis Rams

The 49ers can get to 8-8 with a win tomorrow against a Rams team that they battered 35-0 in San Francisco earlier this season.  The 49ers will probably try to run a balanced offense tomorrow with Frank Gore running and Alex Smith throwing.  Gore should have success running against a Niners’ D that is allowing 138.4 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry this season.  The Rams don’t have much of a pass rush so Alex Smith should have more than enough time to get the ball to Vernon Davis, Josh Morgan and Michael Crabtree against a Rams’ D allowing 237.3 yards passing per game.

The 49ers’ D will likely be aggressive against the Rams and gang up on Steven Jackson if he’s healthy enough to play tomorrow.  Rookie QB Keith Null will likely be starting against the Niners tomorrow so expect them to get a couple pick-offs in this game.

PREDICTION:  49ERS 27, RAMS 7

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

It is going to be cold and nasty in Philly tomorrow as the game has already been moved back to a 4 o’clock start because of the weather.  This game sets up for the team that can run the ball better and that should be the Niners.  The Niners will likely feed the ball to Frank Gore early in the game and see how it goes against a Eagles’ D that is only allowing 101.5 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry.  The biggest advantage the 49ers will likely have in this game is TE Vernon Davis against the Eagles’ safeties.  Still, the Niners will have to give Alex Smith time to throw the ball against a Eagles’ D that blitzes early and often as they have 36 sacks already this year.  The Eagles allow 218.6 yards passing per game this season but they also have picked off 20 passes so Alex Smith better be careful with the football tomorrow.

The cold weather could help the Niners short circuit the deep passing game of the Eagles which is their strength on offense.  49ers’ inside linebacker Patrick Willis will likely try to smack Lesean McCoy around as he is probably the hardest hitting LB in the NFL.  McCoy and TE Brent Celek might be the players targeted in the passing game the most by Donovan McNabb with the weather likely to be nasty.  Still, the Niners can’t cheat up too much or McNabb will still take some shots over the top to WR Desean Jackson.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 24, 49ERS 21

San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals preview

The San Francisco 49ers (5-7) beat down on the Arizona Cardinals (8-4) in their first matchup this season, but it was the first game of the season and the Cardinals are a much different team now.  They just beat Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings convincingly, where their offense and defense played great.  The 49ers are going to need a big game out of Alex Smith if they want a chance, but with the way the Cardinals handled the future hall-of-famer Favre, it doesn’t seem likely that Smith will have a big day.  Smith is coming of one of his best games though, so if he can get some help from Frank Gore and the running game, they may be able to keep up with Warner and the Cardinals’ potent offense.

Warner and the Cardinals’ offense has been looking very good the past few weeks.  Warner has been having no problem finding his receivers, and he has been finding them for some big plays.  The 49ers cannot let Warner make any of those big plays, but it will be difficult with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin both making great plays.  This matchup doesn’t look good for the 49ers, so I am going with the Cardinals in this one.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  San Francisco 49ers 24, Arizona Cardinals 34

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Niners Chat by admin on Friday 4 December 2009 at 12:38 pm

This should be a very interesting football game this Sunday.  The Niners are only 1-4 on the road while the Seahawks are 3-2 at home this year.  The Niners won in September against the Seahawks 23-10 in San Fran.  The Niners still think that they can win the NFC West as they play the Cardinals next weekend but in order for that to happen they will have to take care of business in Seattle this week which will be easier said than done.  The Niners should get back to the running game this weekend as Frank Gore is the best player on the offense and they need to start getting the ball back  into his hands more.  The Seahawks are allowing 110.7 yards rushing and 4.3 yards per carry so far this year so Gore should have some success.  Alex Smith has been playing decent lately and the Seahawks don’t rush the passer that well so he should have time to look downfield to throw the ball.  Josh Morgan and Michael Crabtree could be in store for good games against a Seahawks’ D that is allowing 238.1 yards passing per game this year.  But, TE Vernon Davis is Smith’s favorite target so he will also likely get a lot of work on Sunday.

The Seahawks will likely come out throwing the ball early and often against a Niners’ D that is allowing 238.1 yards passing per game so far this year.  Matt Hasselbeck should have the time to locate his WRs as the 49ers don’t have much of a pass rush.  With that in mind T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Nate Burleson could have great games this weekend.  TE John Carlson should also be successful this weekend working the short stuff over the middle of the field.  Justin Forsett will likely have a hard time finding much running room against the nasty Patrick Willis in the middle of the Niners’ D.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 27, 49ERS 23

San Francisco 49ers vs Jacksonville Jaguars preview

Blogged under Bloglockers, If I Were a Betting Man, This Week's Matchup Report, General Niners Chat by Andrew on Saturday 28 November 2009 at 9:12 am

The San Francisco 49ers (4-6) have been in a lot of close games in the past few weeks and have been coming out of them on the losing end more often than not.  They will be looking to end that trend as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) Sunday.  Alex Smith needs to stop throwing interceptions, and if he can do that the 49ers will probably win.  The only problem is that Smith has thrown a pick in every game he has started this season, so it’s safe to say he will probably turn the ball over in this contest too.  Frank Gore will need to have one of his big games to negate Smith’s poor play, but it may not be enough as the Jaguars have been sticking to a successful conservative, turnover free game-plan of ball control.

The 49ers’ defense has not been very good against the pass, giving up 256 passing yards per game.  Jaguars’ quarterback David Garrard doesn’t put up a ton of yards, but he has been taking care of the ball and has been very accurate lately.  He also has Maurice Jones-Drew to rely on, who has been averaging 4.8 yards per carry this season.  Jones-Drew has a knee injury though, and it may very well limit what he can do.  Reports say he should be okay though, so I am going to pick the Jaguars in a close win.

FINAL SCORE PREDICITON:  San Francisco 49ers 21, Jacksonville Jaguars 24
