The San Francisco 49ers waive Braylon Edwards

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 28 December 2011 at 12:25 am

The 49ers have waived 28-year old WR Braylon Edwards.  Edwards played in 9 games for the Niners this year and he caught 15 passes for 181 yards (12.1 avg).  He has now played in 99 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has caught 341 passes for 5,323 yards (15.6 avg) with 39 TD grabs.  It’s kind of surprising that the Niners cut Edwards, but they must think that he isn’t better than the guys they already have at WR.  It’s hard for me to question the 49ers right now as the are rolling.

The 49ers have released 26-year old WR Dominique Zeigler.  He played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Niners last year and he caught 9 passes for 98 yards (10.9 avg).  Zeigler played in 19 games (0 starts) in his two years with the Niners and he caught 14 passes for 195 yards (13.9 avg).  This is absolutely no loss to the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers deal safety Taylor Mays

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 12:43 pm

The 49ers have finally found a taker for 23-year old safety Taylor Mays.  They have dealt Mays to the Cincinnati Bengals for an undisclosed late round draft pick.  Mays played in all 16 games as a rookie for the 49ers last year and he had 38 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This is addition by subtraction as Mays has been a pain in the butt for whoever has been coaching the Niners.

The San Francisco 49ers waive OLB Thaddeus Gibson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 16 August 2011 at 2:42 pm

The 49ers have waived 23-year old OLB Thaddeus Gibson.  Gibson played in 3 games for the 49ers last year and he had 3 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.  This is no big loss for the 49ers as they have more than enough depth at linebacker to cover for Gibson being let go.  He won’t be missed in 2011 or down the road.

The San Francisco 49ers release kicker Joe Nedney

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 3:24 pm

The 49ers have released 38-year old kicker Joe Nedney.  Nedney played in 9 games for the Niners last year and he connected on 11 of 13 field goals (84.6%).  He also connected on all 17 of his extra point attempts as he finished up with 50 points.  Nedney played in 86 games in his six years with the Niners and he has connected on 129 of 149 field goals (86.6%).  He also nailed all 154 of his extra points as he finished up his career with the 49ers with 541 points.  Nedney is still a good kicker but his age is starting to catch up to his body and that’s the reason the Niners let him go.

The San Francisco 49ers release CB Nate Clements

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 11:48 pm

The 49ers have released 31-year old cornerback Nate Clements after he decided against restructuring his contract.  Clements played in all 16 games for the 49ers last year and he had 82 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 sack, 3 interceptions and he defensed 10 passes.  Clements played in 54 games in his four years with the Niners and he had 235 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 7 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 40 passes defensed and 10 interceptions.  The 49ers are going to have to take the money that was going to go for Clements to find his replacement.

The San Francisco 49ers have released David Carr

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 8:01 pm

The 49ers have released 32-year old QB David Carr.  Carr played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Niners last year and he completed 5 of 13 (38.5%) passes for 67 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (23.6 QB Rating).  Carr has now played in 92 games (79 starts) in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has completed 1,351 of 2,264 passes (59.7%) for 14,433 yards with 65 TD passes and 71 INTs (74.9 QB Rating).  Carr has also carried the ball 302 times for 1,331 yards (4.4 ypc) with 9 TD runs in his career to date.  As soon as Alex Smith was re-signed, Carr had to know he was going to get the axe.  He is 23-56 (29.1%) as a starting QB, so he will likely be lucky to get another chance in the NFL.

The San Francisco 49ers have fired Mike Singletary

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 27 December 2010 at 3:51 pm

The San Francisco 49ers have fired head coach Mike Singletary.  The 49ers were 5-10 this year on Singletary’s watch which has them tied for last place in the awful NFC West with the Cardinals.  Singletary seemed to be playing way to conservative offensively as the Niners only averaged 17.8 points per game under him this year while they allowed 22.6 points per game.  The 49ers were 18-22 (45%) under Singletary in his three years with the team.  The 49ers have replaced Singletary with 42-year old defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.  He has been with the 49ers since 2007 as the D-Line Coach.  Tomsula was the head coach of the NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire in 2006 and he was 6-4 that season.  The Niners play the Cardinals in San Francisco next week to finish up the season.

The San Francisco 49ers waive Shane Andrus

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 1 December 2010 at 2:20 am

The 49ers have waived 30-year old kicker Shane Andrus.  The 30-year old Andrus played in 2 games for the 49ers this season and he made 2 of 4 field goals and all three of his extra points good for 9 points.  37-year old Joe Nedney is ready to return to action so the Niners had no need to keep Andrus around.  Nedney has played in 9 games so far this year for the 49ers and he has connected on 11 of 13 field goals (84.6%) and all 17 of his extra points good for 50 points.  The 49ers have to be happy to get Nedney back because they can’t afford to keep leaving points on the field.

The San Francisco 49ers release Michael Lewis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Leaving Town,Needs To Step Up by admin on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 12:11 pm

The 49ers have released starting strong safety Michael Lewis.  Lewis played in 3 games for the Niners this year and he had 10 tackles.  The 30-year old Lewis played in 50 games in his four years with the 49ers and he had 292 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 4.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions.  Rookie second round pick Taylor Mays will replace Lewis as the starter at strong safety and he has a nice upside.  Mays has played in 4 games this year for the Niners and he has 13 tackles and a recovery of a blocked punt that went for a TD.
