The 49ers didn’t look like they wanted to play last night in San Diego.  They got a TD during garbage time or they would have gotten shut out.  Alex Smith was pretty bad in this game as he completed 19 of 29 passes for 165 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Anthony Dixon led the way on the ground last night for the Niners with 33 yards rushing on 5 carries (6.6 ypc).  Brian Westbrook pitched in with 8 carries for 22 yards (2.8 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 avg).  WR Josh Morgan led the way in the passing game for the Niners last night with 7 catches for 106 yards (15.1 avg).  The Niners only could muster 61 yards rushing on 15 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 29 passes for 131 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 22:49.

LB Takeo Spikes (12 tackles), LB Patrick Willis (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and safety Dashon Goldson (8 tackles) led the way for the Niners on D last night.  The Chargers finished up with 108 yards rushing on 41 carries (2.6 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 25 passes for 266 yards.  The Niners are now 5-9 on the year and they still have a shot at making the playoffs which just tells you how badly the NFC West sucks.

San Francisco 49ers 40, Seattle Seahawks 21

The San Francisco 49ers took the Seahawks behind the woodshed yesterday.  Alex Smith was solid in his return to the starting lineup as he completed 17 of 27 passes for 255 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 12 yards (3.0 ypc) in this game.  Anthony Dixon led the way for the Niners on the ground in this game with 60 yards rushing on 14 carries (4.3 ypc).  Brian Westbrook pitched in with 23 yards rushing on 9 carries (2.6 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 87 yards (14.5 avg) with a TD grab.  WR Josh Morgan (3 rec, 82 yards, TD) and TE Vernon Davis (5 rec, 70 yards, TD) led the way for the Niners through the air in this game.  The Niners finished up with 95 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 27 passes for 241 yards in this game.

The defense looked pretty solid in this game for the Niners.  LB Takeo Spikes (9 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception), LB Patrick Willis (7 tackles) and safety Dashon Goldson (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed and a interception that he returned 39 yards for a TD) led the way for the 49ers on D yesterday.  OLB Travis LaBoy (fumble recovery), safety Reggie Smith (interception) and CB Nate Clements (interception) also made some big plays for the Niners on D.  The Seahawks finished up with 84 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 42 passes for 277 yards.  The Niners are now 5-8 on the season and they are only 1 game behind the Seahawks & Rams in the NFC West.

Green Bay Packers 34, San Francisco 49ers 16

The 49ers got pushed around on both sides of the ball yesterday at Lambeau Field.  Troy Smith was off as he only completed 10 of 25 passes for 194 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 28 yards (9.3 ypc) in this game.  Anthony Dixon (9 carries, 33 yards, 3.7 ypc) and Brian Westbrook (9 carries, 31 yards, 3.4 ypc) led the way on the ground for the Niners in this game.  TE Vernon Davis (4 rec, 126 yards, TD) and WR Michael Crabtree (3 rec, 45 yards) led the way through the air for the 49ers.  The 49ers finished up with 97 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 10 of 25 passes for 172 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 22:49.

LB Takeo Spikes (17 tackles, 1 pass defensed), safety Dashon Goldson (7 tackles) and LB Ahmad Brooks (4 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 3 QB hits) led the way for the Niners on D in this game.  The Packers finished up with 136 yards rushing on 34 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 30 passes for 274 yards.  The Niners are now 4-8 on the season as they are now 2 games behind both the Rams & Seahawks in the NFC West.

San Francisco 49ers 27, Arizona Cardinals 6

The 49ers dominated the Cardinals on both sides of the ball last night.  Troy Smith was little more than a game manager last night as he completed 11 of 23 passes for 129 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Brian Westbrook was taken out of mothballs and he carried the ball 23 times for 136 yards (5.9 ypc) with a TD run last night to lead the way on the ground for the Niners.  Anthony Dixon also had a solid game with 14 carries for 54 yards (3.9 ypc) with 1 TD carry.  Frank Gore carried the ball 5 times for 52 yards (10.4 ypc) before leaving the game with a fractured hip.  WRs Michael Crabtree (2 rec, 48 yards, TD) and Josh Morgan (3 receptions for 28 yards and 1 carry for 13 yards led the way through the air.  The 49ers finished up with 261 yards rushing on 47 carries (5.6 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 23 passes for 125 yards as they had possession of the ball for 39:01.

The defense was awesome for the Niners last night.  CB Tarrell Brown (6 tackles) and LB Patrick Willis (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Niners’ D.  LB Takeo Spikes (3 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and NT Aubrayo Franklin (2 tackles and a fumble recovery) also made huge plays last night.  The Cardinals finished up with 13 yards rushing on 11 carries (1.2 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 35 passes for 190 yards.  The 49ers are now 4-7 on the year.

The 49ers got pushed around yesterday by the Bucs who beat them up on both sides of the ball.  Troy Smith completed 16 of 31 passes for 148 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  He was sacked 6 times yesterday as the Bucs’ D-Line manhandled the O-Line of the Niners.  Smith also carried the ball 5 times for 45 yards (9.0 ypc) when he was running for his life.  The Bucs stuffed Frank Gore all day long as he carried the ball 12 times for 23 yards (1.9 ypc) but he did add 5 catches for 37 yards (7.4 avg).  Josh Morgan led the way in the passing game for the Niners yesterday with 4 grabs for 51 yards (12.8 avg).  The 49ers finished up with only 71 yards rushing on 18 carries (3.9 ypc) and they were 16 of 31 passing for 118 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 23:36.

The Niners’ LBs came to play yesterday as Patrick Willis (13 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) and Takeo Spikes (12 tackles and 1 QB hit) led the way.  The Bucs finished up with 162 yards rushing on 42 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 22 passes for 137 yards.  The 49ers are now 3-7 on the season.

San Francisco 49ers 23, St. Louis Rams 20 in OT

Troy Smith led the Niners on a 6-play, 55 yard drive in O.T. that set up Joe Nedney for the game winning 29-yard field goal.  Smith had another huge game for the Niners as he completed 17 of 28 passes for 356 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) in this game.  Frank Gore was solid as usual in this game with 22 carries for 87 yards (4.0 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 67 yards (22.3 avg).  TEs Delanie Walker (4 rec, 80 yards) and Vernon Davis (4 rec, 79 yards) led the way for the Niners in this passing game yesterday.  WRs Josh Morgan (1 rec, 65 yards) and Michael Crabtree (4 rec, 61 yards, TD) also pitched in for the 49ers in the passing game.  The 49ers finished up with 98 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 28 passes for 323 yards.

LB Patrick Willis (11 tackles, sack), CB Nate Clements (7 tackles) and LB Takeo Spikes (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed) led the way for the 49ers on D in this game.  The Rams finished up with 104 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 30 of 42 passes for 228 yards.  The 49ers are now 3-6 on the season.

The 49ers woke up in the 4th quarter when they scored 3 TDs to prevail in London over the awful Broncos.  Troy Smith was very effective in his first start at QB for the 49ers as he completed 12 of 19 passes for 196 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 2 yards (0.5 ypc) with a TD run.  Frank Gore led the way for the Niners on the ground as usual in this game with 118 yards on 29 carries (4.1 ypc) with a TD run.  TE Delanie Walker (5 rec, 85 yards) and WR Michael Crabtree (3 rec, 53 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game overseas for the Niners yesterday.  The 49ers finished up with 143 yards rushing on 42 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 19 passes for 196 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:34.

LB Patrick Willis led the way for the 49ers’ D yesterday with 9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  Safety Taylor Mays (7 tackles) and Takeo Spikes (7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) also had solid games for the Niners yesterday.  DE Justin Smith was also busy in this game with 4 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits kept the pressure on Kyle Orton all day long.  CB Shawntae Smith pitched in with a interception yesterday for the Niners.  The Broncos finished up with 59 yards rushing on 17 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 40 passes for 338 yards.  The 49ers are now 2-6 on the season.

Carolina Panthers 23, San Francisco 49ers 20

This was a really tough loss for the 49ers.  Alex Smith completed 9 of 19 passes for 129 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs before leaving the game with a left shoulder injury.  He did no return.  David Carr replaced him and he was awful.  He completed 5 of 13 passes for 67 yards with 0 TD passes and a interception with less than a minute left in the game that led to the Panthers’ game winning field goal.  Frank Gore had a very good game today as he carried the ball 19 times for 102 yards (5.4 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for another 57 yards (14.3 avg).  TE Vernon Davis also had a solid game for the Niners with 4 grabs for 74 yards (18.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The 49ers finished up with 99 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 32 passes for 183 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 23:55.

The defense just couldn’t get off the field against the Panthers today.  LB Patrick Willis (11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and CB Nate Clements (9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) led the way for the 49ers on D today.  DT Ray McDonald (31-yard interception return for a TD), CB Shawntae Spencer (fumble recovery) and OLB Parys Haralson (fumble recovery) all had big plays in this game for the Niners’ D.  The Panthers finished up with 76 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.2 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 41 passes for 303 yards today.  The 49ers are now 1-6 on the year as they are sinking like a rock in deep water.

The 49ers broke the seal today winning their first football game of the year by playing efficient offensively while dominating on defense.  Alex Smith was a little better than usual today as he completed 16 of 33 passes for 196 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Frank Gore was very solid running the ball with 149 yards rushing on 25 carries (6.0 ypc) today.  WR Michael Crabtree (4 rec, 57 yards, TD), WR Josh Morgan (3 rec, 49 yards) and TE Vernon Davis (4 rec, 35 yards, TD) led the way for the Niners in the passing game today.  The 49ers finished up with 158 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 33 passes for 191 yards today as they had possession of the football for 33:21.

LBs Takeo Spikes (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception), Patrick Willis (6 tackles) and Manny Lawson (2 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) led the way for the Niners on D today.  The Raiders finished up with 110 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 8 of 21 passes for 69 yards.  The 49ers are now 1-5 on the year.

Philadelphia Eagles 27, San Francisco 49ers 24

The 49ers kept shooting themselves in the foot and it killed them in the end.  Alex Smith completed 25 of 39 passes for 309 yards with 3 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 16 yards (5.3 ypc) in this game.  Smith lost a fumble during this game that was returned 52 yards for a TD by Eagles’ safety Quintin Mikell.  Frank Gore also lost 2 fumbles in this game for the Niners.  He carried the ball 18 times for 52 yards (2.9 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 21 yards (5.3 avg) with a TD grab.  WR Michael Crabtree (9 rec, 105 yards, TD) and TE Vernon Davis (5 rec, 104 yards, TD) led the way through the air for the Niners last night.  The 49ers finished up with 74 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 39 passes for 290 yards.
