The 49ers played a solid all around game in Dallas Saturday Night.  Shaun Hill started this game at QB and he completed 9 of 17 passes for 79 yards.  Damon Huard made a brief appearance in this game completing 2 of 4 passes for 25 yards.  Rookie Nate Davis finished up this game and he played well again completing 10 of 15 passes for 132 yards.  Kory Sheets led the Niners in rushing in this game with 42 yards on 11 carries (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 3 passes for 18 yards (6.0 avg) in this game.  Glen Coffee was also a busy body in this game with 34 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.3 ypc) and he also added 3 catches for 27 yards (9.0 avg).  Arnaz Battle led the way in the passing game for the Niners with 54 yards on 4 catches (13.5 avg).  The 49ers finished with 319 yards of total offense in this game (101 rushing, 218 passing).

Safety Mark Roman led a bend but don’t break defense in this game as he had 5 tackles and a interception that he returned 57 yards off Tony Romo.  The Cowboys finished up with 377 total yards on offense (125 rushing, 252 passing) but they could only muster 13 points.

San Francisco 49ers 21, Oakland Raiders 20

The 49ers were sleepwalking through the first three quarters of this game before exploding for 18 points in the 4th quarter to put this game away.  Shaun Hill did not look sharp completing 3 of 7 passes for just 20 yards.  But, Alex Smith was awful completing only 3 of 9 passes for 30 yards with 1 interception.  Rookie Nate Davis finished up the game in impressive fashion completing 6 of 11 passes for 67 yards with 1 TD pass.  Rookie RB Glen Coffee stole the show in this game for the Niners with 129 yards rushing on 16 carries (8.1 ypc).  Michael Robinson was also electric in this game with 97 yards rushing on 14 carries (6.9 ypc).  Undrafted rookie Kory Sheets continued to impress with 51 yards on 12 carries (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD carry.  WR Jason Hill (3 rec, 31 yards) and TE Delanie Walker (2 rec, 28 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Niners.  The 49ers finished up with 389 total yards on offense (275 rushing, 114 passing) and they hogged the ball for 38:44 of this game.

Linebacker Scott McKillop led a good effort by the Niners’ defense with 5 tackles.  The Raiders only finished with 245 total yards on offense (69 rushing, 176 passing) in this game as the defense played well.

OT Marvel Smith calls it a career retiring from the San Francisco 49ers

31-year old offensive tackle Marvel Smith has decided to hang up his cleats.  He played in 5 games (all starts) for the Steelers last season.  Smith finishes his career playing in 111 games (108 starts) in his NFL career in which he helped the Steelers win two Super Bowls.  This hurts the Niners as he was projected to be the starting right tackle in 2009.  Adam Snyder will likely take over Smith’s spot this season and that is a downgrade.

The San Francisco 49ers sign CB Eric Green

The 49ers have signed 27-year old CB Eric Green to a 1-year deal.  Green played in 13 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 32 tackles, defensed 5 passes and had 1 interception.  He has now played in 51 games in his 4-year NFL career and he has made 168 tackles, has defensed 31 passes, forced 2 fumbles and he has 2 interceptions.  This was a good pickup for the Niners as Green knows the division.

The San Francisco 49ers release fullback Zak Keasey

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Niner News,Front Page,General Niners Chat,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 26 August 2009 at 6:22 am

The 49ers have released 27-year old fullback Zak Keasey with a injury settlement as he has a broken forearm that would have caused him to miss at least 8 weeks.  Keasey played in 6 games last season for the Niners and he caught 3 passes for 25 yards (8.3 avg).  He played in 19 games in his two years with the Niners in which he carried the ball 2 times for 4 yards (2.0 ypc) and caught 3 passes for 25 yards (8.3 avg).  The Niners shouldn’t miss Keasey too much in the future.

The San Francisco 49ers place Thomas Clayton on I.R.

The 49ers have placed 25-year old RB Thomas Clayton on the Injured Reserve List due to a torn ACL.  Clayton was no better than the 4th string running back behind Frank Gore, Glen Coffee and Michael Robinson so the Niners shouldn’t miss him too much.

San Francisco 49ers 17, Denver Broncos 16

The 49ers just played barely well enough to win this game last Friday Night.  Shaun Hill made a brief appearance completing both of his two pass attemtps for 41 yards.  Alex Smith followed Hill in the game and he was efficient completing 5 of 7 passes for 33 yards with a TD pass.  Damon Huard finished up the game and he was outstanding completing 7 of 9 passes for 98 yards with 1 TD pass.  Rookie RBs Glen Coffee (14 car, 67 yards, 4.8 ypc) and Kory Sheets (10 car, 51 yards, 5.1 ypc) led the way in the running game for the Niners in this game.  Fullback Brit Miller was the real star though as he caught 2 passes for 43 yards (21.5 avg) and they both went for TDs!

The Broncos played well in the first half of this game picking off Broncos’ QB Kyle Orton three times.  But, the Broncos rolled up 341 total yards of offense in this game.  Linebacker Scott McKillop led the way for the Niners in this game with 9 tackles.  This was a good start for the Niners who will try to build momentum before the regular season begins.
