San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 13

The San Francisco 49ers turned up the offense on Saturday Night to get a nice win.  Shaun Hill started the first NFL game of his career against the Bengals and he completed 21 of 28 passes for 197 yards with a TD pass.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 12 yards (2.4 ypc) with a TD run.  Frank Gore was outstanding on the ground as he carried the ball 29 times for 138 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 9 yards.  Darrell Jackson had his best game of the season for the 49ers with 8 catches for 86 yards (10.8 avg).  TE Vernon Davis also had a solid game with 5 catches for 46 yards (9.2 avg) with a TD grab.  The 49ers finished up with 156 yards rushing on 37 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 28 passes for 181 yards.

The Niners defense was led by Patrick Willis and safety Donald Strickland who each had 6 tackles apiece.  The Bengals finished up with 61 yards rushing on 19 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 31 passes for 251 yards.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Niners Chat by admin on Wednesday 12 December 2007 at 4:41 pm

This is a game between two of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season.  The Bengals have played better lately as they have won 2 of their last three games and they are somewhat healthy.  The 49ers started out the season 2-0 but the have only won 1 of their last 11 games and will be starting a QB that has never started an NFL game.

The Bengals will probably mix it up on offense in this football game as the 49ers have been awful on both sides of the football this season.  Carson Palmer will probably have a lot of time to throw the football as the 49ers don’t usually have much of a pass rush.  With that in mind it could be a long night for the 49ers defensive backs.  Chad Johnson (79 rec, 1,187 yards, 6 TDs), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (96 rec, 966 yards, 11 TDs) and Chris Henry (18 rec, 268 yards, TD) should all have a lot of success against the Niners.  If the Bengals get the lead throwing the ball they will then try to grind the win out on the ground with Rudi Johnson, Kenny Watson and de de Dorsey.

The 49ers will likely attack the run defense of the Bengals with Frank Gore who has been running better as of late.  The Bengals are allowing 116.5 yards rushing per game so far this season and 4.2 yards per carry so Gore should have a lot of success.  The 49ers should also attack the safeties of the Bengals with TE Vernon Davis who is a matchup nightmare.  After all, a tight end is a young QBs best friend.  With Shaun Hill making his first NFL start the 49ers will likely keep it safe in the passing game.

PREDICTION:  CINCINNATI BENGALS 27, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS 16

Minnesota Vikings 27, San Francisco 49ers 7

The 49ers fell behind 27-0 at the half and they never mounted a challenge to the Vikings as they fell to 3-10 on the season.  Trent Dilfer started the game and he completed 7 of 19 passes for 45 yards with a pickoff before leaving the game with a concussion.  Shaun Hill made his NFL debut in replacing Dilfer and he completed 22 of 28 passes for 180 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Frank Gore carried the football 16 times for 68 yards (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 8 passes for 49 yards (6.1 avg).  But, Gore also lost two fumbles which hurt quite a bit.  TE Delanie Walker led the way in the passing game for the 49ers with 6 catches for 65 yards (10.9 avg).  Vernon Davis pitched in with 5 catches for 42 yards (8.4 avg).  The 49ers finished up with 73 yards rushing on 20 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 47 passes for 211 yards.

The Niners defense was led by rookie linebacker Patrick Willis who had 8 tackles.  The Vikings finished up with 117 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 25 passes for 163 yards.

Carolina Panthers 31, San Francisco 49ers 14

Blogged under Game Recaps, Bloglockers, Front Page, General Niners Chat by admin on Monday 3 December 2007 at 7:24 pm

The 49ers woke up the Panthers who had not won at home in over a year until yesterday!  Trent Dilfer had a awful game as he completed 14 of 29 passes for 171 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 interceptions.  Frank Gore didn’t get the ball enough as he carried the ball 12 times for 58 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 53 yards (10.6 avg).  Arnaz Battle also had one of his better games of the season as he caught 4 passes for 51 yards (12.8 avg) with a TD.  The 49ers only had possession of the football for 21:38 of the game and that helps explain the final score.  The Niners finished up with 59 yards rushing on 17 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 29 passes for 136 yards.

Patrick Willis led the Niners defense with another superhuman effort as he had 18 tackles.  Nate Clements also had a decent game as he pitched in with 8 tackles and a interceptions.  The Panthers finished up with 166 yards rushing on 44 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 26 passes for 157 yards.
